trim back the weigela shrub every year in late spring. Pruning can help it grow newer, healthier branches and may also boost the weigela's flowering potential. Cut back a third of the shrub's oldest branches, focusing on canes that are two years old or older for more established plants.

We have the red flower florida variety.  I think the plant bought from Queenswood Nursery was a variagated one that will have tricolour flowers, white, pink and deep pink.  Hummingbirds love these as they are related to the honeysuckle family.
